  • Generally, York University awards block credit or credit for individual courses depending on the type of prior post-secondary learning. Course equivalencies/waivers to satisfy degree requirements may also be awarded.

  • The amount of transfer credit you can receive is limited by York University's residency policy. The policy states that at least 30 course credits and at least half (50%) of the course credits required in an undergraduate degree program major/minor must be completed at the University. In addition, strict regulations set out by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) limit the amount of transfer credit granted in an Engineering degree (a maximum of 30 course credits in Engineering Science and Engineering Design if completed at a degree-granting Canadian institution accredited by CEAB).

  • York University will consider all courses, regardless of currency/timing. The exception to this is Computer Science, Information Technology, Kinesiology, Administrative Studies and Psychology courses which must be completed within the past  5 years to be considered for major, minor or prerequisite credit towards a degree program.
