  • The University of Toronto Scarborough awards specific (equivalencies), unspecified, and generic credits in recognition of previous learning.

    • Specific Credit (Equivalencies): Granted when a course is considered to be directly equivalent to that of a specific course at the University of Toronto Scarborough.
    • Unspecified Credit: Granted when a course is not identical in content or level to any specific course at the University of Toronto Scarborough.
    • Generic Credit: Granted when a course is not identical in content or level to any specific course at the University of Toronto Scarborough and does not fall under one particular subject area (e.g. interdisciplinary courses).
  • The amount of transfer credit you can receive is limited by the University of Toronto-Scarborough's residency policy. The policy states that University of Toronto Scarborough students must complete/obtain standing in 20.0 credits to complete a degree. A standard course load per year is 5.0 credits. Transfer students must complete a minimum of 50% (10.0 credits) of their course work at University of Toronto Scarborough to meet our residency requirement.

  • The University of Toronto Scarborough will consider all courses for transfer credit, regardless of currency.

  • Follow these steps in order to receive your PLAR assessment at the University of Toronto Scarborough:

    • The University of Toronto Scarborough does not grant PLAR credits. Credits granted by another institution on the basis of PLAR are not transferable to the University of Toronto Scarborough.
  • Not applicable.

  • Transfer credits will be recorded on your University of Toronto Scarborough transcript by listing the course code (specific, unspecified and generic) and will not be included in GPA calculation. Students transferring from Arts, Science or Business programs at other University of Toronto campuses will retain all credits and associated GPA.

  • Familiarize yourself with the University of Toronto Scarborough’s official credit transfer policies:

  • Once you receive your officer of admission, go to the online 'Transfer Credit On-Admission' form and submit the assessment fee. this fee is mandatory and must be paid to initiate your transfer credit assessment. The form can be found at https://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/regoffice/transfer_credit/ 

    • Students are not required to submit course descriptions providing they have attended postsecondary institutions in Canada. If course descriptions are required, the Transfer Credit Assessor will contact the student directly. 
    • Transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing institution to the University of Toronto Scarborough via OUAC. Where OUAC electronic transcripts submissions are unavailable, we will accept hardcopy transcripts sent directly from the issuing institution (we do not accept copies "issued to student"). It is mandatory that you inform us immediately if you are enrolling in summer courses and send your official final transcript when grades are finalized. There is no additional assessment fee for summer courses. Have transcripts sent to:

    Ensure that your e-mail address is correct. When your transfer credit assessment is complete, you will receive an e-mail with the outcome. Print the Transfer Credit Information Sheet to understand your assessment.

  • A transfer credit assessment at the University of Toronto Scarborough costs $30.00.

  • The documentation required to have your previously completed postsecondary education assessed for transfer credit at the University of Toronto Scarborough includes: 

    • Official transcript(s) to be submitted via OUAC
    • When requested, course outlines should include: course objectives, the number of credit hours, the length of the course, the grading scheme, a week-to-week topic summary, a reading list, and a breakdown of essays, tests and exams.
    • Official English translations (must accompany official transcripts and course outlines issued in a language other than English).
    • Completed online application form.
  • Complete the online application form at the University of Toronto Scarborough at:

  • Apply to transfer credit at the University of Toronto Scarborough at the time you accept your offer of admission and prior to enrolment/course selection.

  • A transfer credit decision at the University of Toronto Scarborough will take 4-6 weeks to process. Assessment response times depend on a number of factors such as whether or not students have submitted complete documentation (e.g. official transcripts and detailed course outlines), whether or not the University of Toronto Scarborough has previously assessed any of the student’s courses, and the time of year students initiate their assessment (mid-May to mid-August are peak periods).

  • A transfer credit decision can be reviewed/appealed at the University of Toronto-Scarborough by contacting the Office of Admissions and Student Recruitment (utsc.transfercredit@utoronto.ca). You should be prepared to make a case for your appeal in writing and supply detailed course outlines from your previous institution, for courses that you have concerns about.
