Saint Paul University awards advanced standing and exemptions (equivalencies) in recognition of previous learning.

The amount of transfer credit you can receive is limited by Saint Paul University's residency policy. The policy states that at least 50% of program requirements must be completed at the University.

Saint Paul University will consider courses completed within the past 10 years for transfer credit.

Follow these steps in order to receive your PLAR assessment at Saint Paul University:
- To have prior learning recognized, an applicant must first be admitted to and register for a program of study.
- The PLAR request must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office during the first study session. The Registrar’s Office can refuse any assessment and its decision is without appeal.
- Advanced standing credits are awarded strictly for existing courses at Saint Paul University, as part of a student's program of study, and offered at the University within the last 24 months.
- A maximum of 30 credits can be granted for prior learning recognition. Advanced standing credits appear on the official transcript, but do not count in Saint Paul University’s residency requirements. Credits obtained for prior learning recognition might not be recognized by accreditation/licensing bodies and/or professional associations.

A PLAR assessment at Saint Paul University costs $20.00 to have your request's eligibility examined and $250.00 for the assessment itself, if deemed eligible. All fees are non-refundable.

Transfer credits will be recorded on your Saint Paul University transcript as “Q” for exempted courses and will not be included in GPA calculation.

- Apply to your program of choice. Once you have an ID number, you will receive an official assessment. Your advanced standing must be approved by the applicable Admission Coordinator(s).

- Get an idea of your transfer/exemption possibilities by viewing your program’s course descriptions. Find your program’s course descriptions at: http://ustpaul.ca/future-students.php.
- Consult with your Admission Coordinator(s) about the course exemptions you could potentially receive.
- Make sure the Registrar’s Office has your official transcript(s) on file.

There is no fee required for a transfer credit assessment at Saint Paul University. Transfer credits are assessed upon admission and there is a $100.00 Saint Paul University admission application fee.
