  • Learn more about credit transfer to Toronto Metropolitan University on our Transfer Credit website.

  • Review the general requirements on our Admission Requirements pages and program-specific requirements on the Program pages.

  • The minimum grade required to transfer a course is 70% or “B-“ for applicants from accredited postsecondary colleges and institutions of technology. For applicants from accredited universities, a minimum grade of 60% or “C-“ is required.

Performance indicators other than alpha or percentage grades are not acceptable for transfer credit (i.e. PSD [passed], CRT [credit], EXP [exempt], EXM [exam], etc.).

  • Visit our Transfer Students page for details on pathway opportunities.

  • We award advanced standing, specific (equivalencies) and generic credits in recognition of previous learning.

Advanced Standing: If you have previously completed one or more years of study at TMU or another accredited postsecondary institution, you may be eligible for admission to a level higher than first year/semester. When advanced standing is granted, all or some of your previous postsecondary studies are used as the basis of admission.

Specific and Generic Credits: If you have completed postsecondary education, you may be eligible for transfer credits in recognition of previous learning. This transfer credit may be used to fulfill TMU program requirements.

  • The amount of transfer credit you can apply towards a program's graduation requirement is limited by the residency policy.  The policy states that at least final one half of all program requirements must be completed at the University.

No more than 50% of a program's graduation requirements may consist of advanced standing and/or course credits, such as transfer credits, letter of permission credits and challenge credits.

  • Our Institution will consider most courses for transfer credit, regardless of currency. Course content is subject to change over time and in order to meet current curriculum, accreditation and learning outcome requirements, some courses completed 10 or more years ago may not be recognized for transfer credit. For example, Computer Science, Nursing, Media Studies, etc.

  • Visit our Challenge Credits page for details on the application process.

  • A challenge credit assessment costs $175.00 per course (subject to change).

  • Transfer credits will be recorded on your TMU transcript as "CRT" and will not be included in GPA calculation.
