The minimum cumulative average required to transfer a course to Nipissing University is 3.0, 70% or “B” for 2 and 3 year college diploma applicants. College applicants who have completed 1 year (2 semesters) of a diploma program or graduates of a 1 year (2 semester) certificate program are not eligible for transfer credit consideration. For university applicants, a minimum grade of “C” or higher is required. These requirements may vary depending on the program.

Nipissing University awards block credit, specified (equivalencies) and unspecified credits in recognition of previous learning. Awarded credit is determined by the specific agreement and/or program the student is entering.

The amount of transfer credit you can receive is limited by Nipissing University's residency policy. The policy states that at least 30 credits in an undergraduate degree must be completed at the University. In addition, at least half (50%) of the required courses for each declared area of study must be completed at the University.
The following exceptions apply: i. If you are a student who applies for the BScN-IUON stream, you must successfully complete your final year at Nipissing University; ii. If you are a student who applies for a Bachelor of Commerce degree, you must successfully complete 30 Nipissing University Business credits; iii. If you are a student who applies for a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice degree, you must successfully complete 30 Nipissing University Criminal Justice credits; iv. If you are a student completing an Honours double major you must successfully complete a minimum of 18 Nipissing University credits in each major.
Students who apply to graduate with a minor(s) must successfully complete at least half (50%) of each minor at Nipissing University.

Nipissing University will consider all courses completed at an accredited institution for transfer credit, regardless of currency, with the exception of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, which will only grant credit for required courses that have been completed within the past 10 years.
Transfer credit will not normally be granted for practical or clinical courses taken in specific areas such as Engineering, Education, Dance, etc. Credits for courses taken in the areas of Physical and Health Education or Nursing may be granted when applied to the same program at Nipissing University.

Follow these steps in order to receive your transfer credit assessment at Nipissing University:
- Once you have been offered admission, accepted that offer of admission, and we have received your final transcript indicating that you have graduated (if applicable), you will be granted advanced standing or transfer credit.
- The Office of the Registrar will begin to assess advance standing upon receiving a final transcript. Once the assessment is complete, students should be able to view transfer credits on WebAdvisor. At this point an appointment should be booked with an Academic Advisor in order to see how these credits will fit into the student's academic program.
- Applicants deemed eligible for admission with advanced standing or transfer credit must submit recently dated transcripts of their academic record directly to the Office of the Registrar. An Academic Calendar, course descriptions and/or course outlines from their former institution(s) may be required. Those applicants who are eligible for advanced standing or transfer credits will be notified of their eligibility.
- The application of advanced standing or transfer credits to a degree program will vary depending on the degree program and major to which the applicant is admitted. Changing degree programs or majors may mean a loss of or change to the credits awarded.

A transfer credit assessment at Nipissing University costs $60.00 (document evaluation fee), which is charged to all students with previous postsecondary education.
